Send the review request automatically the day the job ends

Wire one direct Google review link into your booking or invoicing tool so every finished job triggers the ask, without you remembering.

Do this

Build your writereview?placeid= link once, then set your booking or invoicing tool to text or email it automatically when a job is marked complete — the ask is what you automate, never the review itself.

Someone searched "how to generate reviews on autopilot" and landed nowhere useful. Here is the honest version: you cannot automate the writing of reviews — you automate the asking, and you do it at the one moment the customer is happiest, which is the day the work is done. Do that reliably and the reviews arrive on their own. Skip it and you go back to begging one at a time three weeks too late.

Build the one link that skips straight to the star rating

Most people paste their whole Google listing URL, which drops the customer on a page where they have to hunt for the review button. Send them straight to the write-a-review box instead.

  1. Open Google's Place ID Finder (search "Google Place ID Finder") and type your business name to get your Place ID — a string like ChIJ....
  2. Drop it into this URL: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_PLACE_ID
  3. Test it on your phone while logged into a personal Google account. It should open the star picker immediately. If it does, you have your link.
  4. Shorten it with any URL shortener so it fits in a text message without wrapping.

Your Google Business Profile dashboard also has an "Ask for reviews" button that generates a short g.page/r/ link. Either works — the Place ID version is more stable if your profile name ever changes.

Attach it to a trigger you already have

The autopilot part is not a new tool. It is a rule inside whatever you use to close out work.

job marked completetool sends text/emailcustomer taps linkthey leave a review

Jobber, Square, Housecall Pro and most invoicing platforms have a built-in "review request" or "automation" setting — turn it on and paste your link into the message. If your tool has no such feature, a simple automation in Zapier or Make can watch for "invoice paid" and fire the message. Set the delay to a few hours or the next morning, not the same minute the invoice sends.

✗ The ask that gets ignored

"Thanks for your business. Please leave us a review!" with a link to your homepage.

✓ The ask that converts

"Hi Dana — thanks for letting us fix the water heater today. If it went well, a quick review helps a lot: [direct link]. Takes about 30 seconds."

Name the person, name the job, and set the expectation that it is fast. That is the whole difference between a link people tap and one they scroll past.

The Canadian rules that decide whether you can even send it

Two federal rules matter here, and both are easy to stay inside if you know them.

CASL applies to review texts and emails

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation treats a review request as a commercial message. Sending it to a customer you just did paid work for generally falls under an existing-business-relationship exemption, but that window is time-limited and you must include your business name and an unsubscribe option. Confirm the current rules on the CRTC's CASL pages before you turn on a bulk automation.

The second one is bigger: the Competition Bureau treats fake, bought, or incentivised reviews as deceptive marketing. Do not offer a discount "for a 5-star review," do not write them yourself, and do not use a service that plants them. That is the line where "autopilot" turns into a liability, not a shortcut.

You are not buying reviews. You are removing the three-week gap between a happy customer and the two minutes it takes them to say so.

Where DIY stops

The automation above handles a steady trickle from real jobs. If you need to recover from a wave of old one-star reviews, respond to negative feedback at scale, or your booking tool genuinely has no trigger and no integration, that is where a proper reputation workflow — or a developer to wire the API — earns its keep. The link and the trigger, though, you can finish this afternoon.
